This does not happen often, but sometimes clients space has too much storage. I am consulting a client for her basement remodel to update the space and especially this corner of shelving that also provides a hidden access to another space next to garage. Option #1 has a custom wall covering of her favorite movie Casabalanca. Option #2 -in this concept I provide a more modern storage/ display concept for her more modern taste.

On The Boards - Multi-purpose Family Room
One of the projects I am currently working on is a large open space family room.
It's a spacious room with great opportunities, but some of the challenges includes various ceiling heights and
overall ceiling being very low as well as no natural light on the north side.
In my design plan to creating a perfect space for the family and various visitors / friends I want to create a good flow throughout the space reflecting the style of my client while also making it comfortable for the friends and out of town-visitors.
I have divided the space in different "activity zones" per my clients notes:
• TV Viewing/Media Area• Bar & Informal Buffet/Eating Area• Sitting area(s)• Project Area – “library”/ “cigar room”Client also has Personal sports memorabilia that I will incorporate in the space as an art display.
It is important to maximize the seating in the space
Most
days you might just have your family occupying the space, but you want to be
able to accommodate occasional guests as well. The same rule of thumb
applies to living area as dining room of catering to 6-8 people (or even more if you have the space). You might host a larger party where some people might like to watch a
game on big screen, or play a fun board game, while some guests might like to engage on more private conversation. Using ottomans as additional seating is very practical, as they can be easily put away when not needed.
My goals is to create a clean-lined, uncluttered, comfortable and cohesive look that is not overly planned

Basement Remodel
I'm currently working on a Basement Remodel for my House.
The Basement is about 1,200 sqf, and will include following spaces; Rec Room, Bar/ Kitchenette, Home Office, Bath, Home Gym and a Kid's Play Area.
I have just finalized a concept for The Rec Room and Bar/Kitchenette area. Below are images of this 409 sqf area of an unfinished basement; Before photos and concept images. This area will serve as an additional space for entertaining guests and family activities, away from rest of the house. Seating in Rec Room is modular and can be arranged depending on the occasion. A Plasma TV can be hidden behind decorative panels when not in use, and all the electrical cords are hidden inside a built-in media shelf.
Minimal space and minimal natural light are two factors to take into consideration. I tried to keep the space as open as possible and instead of adding walls utilize other visual separation to designate specific areas, letting the natural light travel through the space.
My goal is to take a dark, unfinished space and turn it into something enjoyable, functional and aesthetically pleasing.
