Contortion, Illusion, Tension

Photos by AudreyMichel Photography and Mark Woolcot Photography — at Design After Dark

Local Denver photographer Audrey Michel Photography  did a fabulous job capturing the always wonderful annual Deign After Dark event. Cirque was the theme for  the annual fundraiser organized by the Denver Art Museum’s Department of Architecture, Design & Graphics ($30,000 was raised!). Festivities included the auction of artwork created for the occasion by 28 local artists and designers. I was honored to be one of the 28.

Here is my Adagio [ a form of acrobalance found in circus and dance]
My inspiration is in the natural forms all around us. My intention was to have the individual bent plywood pieces that comprise the shade of the light fixture giving illusion to be connected and “pealed” out of the frame and forming the lamp shade. Thin strips of bent plywood are arranged in a spiral and random pattern. Areaware Plumen Bulb compliments the undulating form of the shade
Light fixture casts a tempestuous pattern on the surfaces around it, lending an additional sense of texture to the spaces it occupies.
I believe that light fixtures should be interesting and beautiful whether the lamps are illuminated or not.

and few objects I really liked (I liked them all really, but these are my favorites)
